For our client, a leading, Vancouver based electric drive systems developer, we are currently looking for an Automotive Mechanical Team Leader. Meeting time and budget requirements, the successful candidate will be responsible for the design and release of advanced automotive EV and HEV powertrains and their mechanical integration.Responsibilities• Advanced powertrain design and integration into existing vehicle architecture, to meet regulatory crash standards, durability, modal and strength targets, and NVH attributes• Design and integration of electrically driven auxiliary components, e.g. electro-hydraulic power steering, vacuum braking system, and electric air-conditioning• Thermal management of electronic and energy storage components, to optimize performance and life over a wide range of operating conditions• Managing and meeting weight and cost targetsYour specific responsibilities will include:• Managing a team of mechanical engineers and designers, including performance management, compensation, coaching and mentoring, as well as hiring decisions• Planning and tracking activities to meet program milestones, accurately forecast labour demands• Setting high level technical direction as needed, and anticipating/resolving issues using industry standard tools such as technical design reviews, DFMEAs, 8Ds• Approving all detailed drawings output by the team• Liaising with Engineering Consultancy groups for outsourced scopes of work• Reporting on status and key issues in various internal and external meetings• Developing cost centre budgets and managing expenditures to budget• Leading continuous design process improvements• Occasional travel to various up fit facilities and suppliers in North America and EuropeQualifications• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering required, Master's strongly preferred• Minimum of 8-10 years in the Automotive field• Excellent team building, mentoring and management experience• Extensive vehicle launch experience, including in-plant launch support• Strong knowledge of standard automotive product development processes, and engineering tools and techniques, including: o Product Development Process (Ford GPDS, GM GPD, or equivalent) o Design reviews o DFMA & DFMEA o 8D o DVP&R o VA/VE o GD&T o Six Sigma• Strong planning skills and priority-setting capabilities• Technical background and proficiency in two or more of the following specializations: thermal, powertrain, body, safety, structures, and/or CAE analysis • Strong understanding of manufacturing techniques• Experience in supplier selection, development, audit and sourcing• Practical, hands-on experience• HEV/EV design and development experience desired, but not required• True ownership of deliverables, timing, and issues • Professional, respectful, insightful and inspiring leader• Outstanding interpersonal skills• Strong communicator, including excellent oral, written and listening skills
