For our client, who is in the alternative energy market, we are looking for an Optical Engineer.Our client has developed a "Sunlighting" technology that delivers natural light throughout commercial buildings to replace electric lighting whenever the sun shines. Integrated collection units harvest sunlight on the building facade and specialized light fixtures deliver the sunlight, improving lighting quality and reducing energy costs, greenhouse gas emissions and increasing energy self sufficiency/security. The client's technology is the first lighting system capable of providing cost-effective natural sunlight throughout commercial buildings. The client's proprietary design uses inexpensive, proven, building materials and optical films to deliver natural sunlight at costs below electric light - an industry milestone. Responsibilities:• Collaborating with the engineering team to specify various conceptual optical designs• Designing, analyzing and testing complex innovative optical systems• Optical system modeling and analysis using ray tracing tools such as TracePro• Developing detailed comparisons for various optical designs including optical performance, manufacturability, size, cost etc.• Providing expertise and support for the various optical systems from concept generation to commercialization• Interacting with vendors and suppliers of optical components• Supporting clients regarding optical system troubleshooting and maintenance• Sourcing off-the-shelf optical and opto-mechanical components• Generating various design and testing documentationRequirements:• A University Degree or College Diploma with equivalent work experience• Excellent interpersonal skills and positive attitude• Strong oral and written communication skills• Exceptional hands-on mechanical and electrical skills• Proven ability to take initiative, while being open to direction and guidance • Able to organize, plan and prioritize work - handle ambiguity and multi task• Skilled at driving internal and external cross group collaboration• Willingness to take ownership and drive projects through to completion• Motivation to develop paradigm-shifting insight and innovation• Accomplished decision making and problem solving skills• Ability to thrive in a fast paced fluid environment with varied tasks• Commitment to continuous improvement and passion for successAssets:• Knowledge of electric and natural lighting techniques• Experience in fabrication and manufacturing of active optical systems• Knowledge of motors and mechanical support structures• Knowledge of optical machining and polishing techniques• Knowledge of commercial building products, specifically: Commercial light fixtures; Ceiling systems; Building envelope systems• Ability to develop 3D optical models using SolidWorks• Proficient knowledge of various typical computer applications including: Microsoft Word, Excel, Visio and Project; Adobe Acrobat
