Are you ready to make a difference in the world of mobile communications with RIM?POSITION SUMMARYThe successful candidate will be responsible for researching and developing new battery solutions for Blackberry Handsets. The battery development effort requires the candidate to work closely with overseas vendors, as well as many internal groups within RIM such as mechanical and electrical engineering, quality assurance and reliability, handset teams, and manufacturing. The successful candidate would act as a senior resource on cell and battery technology at RIM. RESPONSIBILITIES• Research new and existing battery pack and cell technology • Provide insight on cell technology and cell manufacturing processes • Work closely with external vendors to select best in class energy solutions for wireless handsets • Work closely with internal engineering teams (electrical, mechanical, ID), Quality Assurance and Reliability, as well as external battery suppliers, managing the battery development projects from start to finish • Research battery related regulatory and certification standards and their impact to RIM • Support the development of new energy and new power architectures as needed • Participate in vendor manufacturing site audits and technical meetings at overseas locations • Drive battery qualification process improvements • Display the level of determination and initiative needed to ensure that projects succeedESSENTIAL SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS• 10+ years of relevant battery experience with a minimum Bachelor's Degree, in Electrical, Chemical, or Materials Engineering. Preferably Materials or Chemical Engineering. • A good understanding of manufacturing quality and process control methods, supply chain concepts, and cell technology • A strong understanding of battery and cell safety standards and testing protocols • A good understanding of wireless handset power architecture and/or mechanical design concepts • Excellent project management ability, with a demonstrated ability to deliver projects on-time • Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work in a team environmentADDITIONAL ASSETS• Six Sigma and/or Quality Engineering Certification • Formal project management training • Experience with regulatory/certification standards related to batteries such as IEEE/CTIA1725, and ULIf you're driven to take wireless technologies to the next level, it's time you join the team at RIM.
