Sr Database Administrator Job DescriptionLocation: Vancouver, BCPosition Summary:Digital Domain is seeking a Software Engineer to design, build and maintain database-driven applications. Some of these are exposed through web browsers and some run natively as PyQt. The position involves supporting both Windows and Linux systems in a high-availability, multi-site environment. The work is mainly in Python, but the ability to compile and install proprietary and open-source packages is required. You will configure and deploy servers and databases, as well as write and maintain code that uses these servers. There is a lot of scope for optimizing existing systems and schemas, as well as designing new approaches to managing the data that we generate each day (eg, NoSQL approaches, etc). This work will be done in small teams, often across site boundaries. This software environment is fast paced and varied, with customers located on-site or in other locations.Principal Duties and Responsibilities: - Design and development work on applications which are PyQt interfaces connected to MySQL or PostgreSQL databases. - Design and development work on Python and PyQt applications which do not have database back ends, but which should be migrated to new architectures involving databases. - Database management of servers both local and remote. - Extensively involved with data transfer protocol. - Write /Review test plans and test cases for content, coverage, and adherence to department standards. - Perform functional and performance testing for web services. - Perform manual and automated UI tests for web and client server applications - Maintain and execute regression scripts for different product line (Internet products/services, Windows services etc). - Monitor problem log status reports. - Participate in code reviews. - Evaluate projects under test for interdependencies and conflicts.Education, Experience, and Skills Required: - 4+ years Python programming experience. - 4+ years of database and DB admin experience -- MySQL and PostgreSQL - Experience with web servers and web server frameworks. - Familiarity with one or more of the following: PHP, Java, Python. - Understanding of web development practices and technology, and their impact on the database. - Experience with schema design and complex queries on relational databases- Experience using SCM software like Subversion, CVS. Excellent problem-solving, analytical and diagnostic skills. - Able to work closely with Development staff in the design and delivery of data-driven web solutions. - Experience deploying services to Linux servers, including LAMP, PostgreSQL, API development experience. - Windows or Mac development at leading software company is a plus. - Experience in a large, database driven organization is a plus. - Computer Science degree preferred. - Strong problem-solving and communication skills are required.To apply for this position please submit an application at www.digitaldomain.com/careers/
