Whether you are a wireless operator looking to increase the usability of your network data or a commuter who requires access to real-time and accurate traffic information, the Urban Informatics System is the most robust and advanced traffic technology solution in the market.Position SummaryAs an active member of an agile development team, this role is ultimately responsible for:• Perform installations and configurations of Linux based servers• Maintain Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity Plans• Perform and document deployments/rollbacks of JSE and JEE applications in production environments• Provide technical support by participating in on-call standards and procedures (cell phone with voice mail will be provided, and is a requirement of the position)• Monitor and improve the performance, efficiency and availability of production systems by utilizing scripts, and industry standard monitoring applications• Implement and maintain backup and restore procedures• Configure, monitor, and maintain Firewalls and site-to-site VPNs to remote facilities• Maintain/implement Linux operating systems that host the production applications written in JAVA • Document operating references and revisions, network configurations, and server layouts• Monitor logs for suspect activity, set-up and maintenance of Intrusion Detection System (IDS), firewalls and similar devices• Perform maintenance duties and tasks in an effort to prevent unscheduled loss of services• Maintain up-to-date server software patches and upgrades• Work with RAID configurations, redundancy, clustering and high availability systems• Collaborate with other technical and non-technical team members• Work with lifting of computers, racks and various networking equipment• After hour duties are required in an effort to maintain normal business operations for both UIC operations and customer services• Occasional travel, including international, may be required• Due to the sensitive nature of the position, a “clear” criminal records check must be obtainedQualifications Minimum of 7+ years work experience in software development, IT consulting or related business/industry.• 7 - 10 years progressive experience within an information technology environment• 6-10 years of professional Linux System Administration, JEE application deployment, and production support• Solid background in scripting and application/server monitoring and reporting applications (Nagios)• Strong communication and technical system documentation skills • Deep understanding of how to configure and set-up robust networks that are scalable, failsafe, load balanced and secure• Knowledge and experience administrating virtual environments• Windows administration is an asset• Expertise with Cisco Firewall/Router configuration• Database administration experience with MySQL• Ability to work with minimal supervision and meet deadlines• IBM Blade center and SAN experience is an asset• Ability and mentality to support production systems nights, weekends, and holidays • Bachelor of Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent • How to Contact us: Email: Send email submissions to hr@uinformatics.com.
