Visit our website at www.questrade.com Position Title Senior Microsoft Engineer Purpose The Senior Microsoft Engineer will assist project and architecture teams with low-level technical direction in the Initiation and Planning phases of our standard Project Management Methodology. These activities include the definition of needs, benefits, and technical strategy; research & development within the project life-cycle; technical analysis and design. After engineering an approved design the engineer will be responsible for implementing the solution, fine tuning, initial support and documentation of the build. The engineer will then complete a knowledge transfer to the Service Desk, Desktop Services and admin staff, including all standard operational documentation. The engineer is continually responsible to provide 3rd level support, research new product releases and features. Job Summary The Senior Microsoft Engineer's main role is to understand, in low-level detail Microsoft's Operating Systems and Server product capabilities, and deploy them in best practice, standardized configurations. The engineer will think in automated, efficient, dynamic terms, and is experienced with powershell scripting. In addition, the engineer will be responsible for the deployment, health and efficient operation of servers within a Vmware virtualization environment, and will understand the intricacies and integration of VMware with other technologies, such as Storage Area Network, and Data Network access. The engineer will stay up-to-date with latest technology and trends, and will always be ready to answer questions with respect to any Microsoft OS or server product. Must have knowledge of Windows Server 2008, authentication integration with Linux RHEL 5 servers, VMware vSphere, Netbackup, SAN storage concepts, Microsoft Exchange 2007/2010. Job Responsibilities A· Engineering of SA-related solutions for various project and operational needs. A· Install new / rebuild existing servers and configure hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, etc. in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements. A· Install and configure systems such as, Windows Server 2008, VMware guests A· In depth Microsoft product knowledge A· Develop and maintain installation and configuration procedures, including backup procedures and best practices. A· Contribute to and maintain system standards. A· Research and recommend innovation, features, patches and security vulnerabilities. Where possible automate system administration tasks. Identify approaches that leverage our resources. A· General Operating System architecture (design, optimization, documentation, communication) A· Must be familiar with standard Change Management procedures based on ITIL A· Thorough knowledge of security principals and practices along with demonstrated ability to stay abreast of new developments and available solutions A· Demonstrated experience with O/S administration, monitoring, reporting and auditing on multiple platforms A· Familiarity with Active Directory, LDAP, Authentication and related principles/standards (e.g. confidentiality, integrity, authentication, privacy and security administration) A· Knowledge of Information Security environments including system, application, database access methods; logging, monitoring and reporting facilities A· Performance tuning, maintenance, and audits to Wintel device policies A· Troubleshoot outages, system functionality, connectivity issues, and policy related problems A· Maintain system health check on managed security devices/platforms A· Apply software updates and perform maintenance to managed applications/platforms when applicable A· Quality Assurance of newly deployed managed devices A· Detailed documentation of Operating System health, strategies and assessments of threats or gaps Required Qualifications A· Bachelor's degree in computer science and engineering A· Relevant certifications ( RHCE, RHCT, MCITP, MCSE, VCP/VCP4, ) A· 5-7 years of solid experience - Extraordinary people and teamwork skills as well as impeccable communication (written/oral) A· 7+ years of experience in a Systems Engineering/infrastructure position A· University/Community College Business Administration, Information Technology or Engineering degree/diploma (or equivalent) or equivalent work experience A· 5-7 years of work experience in an Information Technology environment
