The de Souza Institute was funded for five years by the Ontario Government in May 2008, to meet the increasing demand for nurses educated in oncology. In partnership with nursing leaders at Princess Margaret Hospital-University Health Network, Cancer Care Ontario, University of Toronto and McMaster University, the Institute provides nurses who work with oncology patients throughout Ontario with the latest education in cancer prevention, diagnosis, treatment, symptom management and palliative care through specialized and innovative on-site and online education. Working with the Institute's information technology team in conjunction with the Institute's strategic plan, the Technical Analyst will be responsible for the designing, development and deployment of innovative software solutions in the space of content management and learning management systems. TECHNICAL COMPETENCIESWide-ranging web development experience with focus on usability, information architecture design, and standard-complianceExperience with programming and scripting languages e.g. PHP, ASP.NET, Java, C# etc.Expert knowledge of HTML, XHTML, CSS, JavaScript, and DOM. Knowledge of Javascript/UI libraries and AJAX solutions.Comprehensive experience with relational databases like Oracle, MS SQL, MySQL databases. Experience in normalized database schema design.Comfortable with LAMP architecture, Linux / Solaris server configuration and shell scripting.Exposure to LDAP for application authentication and credentials verification.Exposure to programming frameworks like Zend, CakePhp etc; Strong knowledge of UML-based design, programming patterns and practices.Exposure to open source portal technologies and content management systems like Drupal, Joomla, Alfresco etc. Knowledge of Agile development methodologies like SCRUM, XP.Self motivated, strong desire to learn and to keep technical skills up-to-date.FUNCTIONAL COMPETENCIESDevelops and presents material for review and information using strong written, verbal, and graphical communications skills with the ability to express complex technical concepts effectively.Ability to mentor co-ops and affect improvements.
