For our client, a Vancouver based, alternative fuel automotive company, we are currently looking for a Sr. Fuel Systems Designer. The successful candidate's overall responsibility is to assure that fuel systems are developed with best-in-class product development cycle-times, expenses and attainment of industry leading quality, performance and cost targets. The Sr. Fuel System Designer must have extensive knowledge of the diesel vehicle industry, fuel system technology and is specialized in FIE, with specific expertise in fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, electromagnetics, relevant metallurgy and the product design and development process. The Individual will be expected to manage all aspects of the APQP product development process including leading a team of skilled design and development engineers in both new product and product maintenance activities.Responsibilities • Injector / fuel system design• Project planning and APQP management• Concept generation and selection• Team leadership, coaching and development• Engineering analysis• System/component specification• Detail design (material selection, Geometric Tolerancing application)• Drawing Quality and Compatibility Review (DQ&CR)• Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA)• Technical Profile definition• Design Verification Plan (DVP) definition• Design reviews• Engineering Change control (ECR/ECN)• Failure analysis/resolution support• Preparation of technical data and documentation• Mathematical simulation modeling & Finite Element AnalysisQualifications• BSc in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent (MSc preferred.)• 10+ years of experience in mechanical design and development, in diesel common Rail and/or high pressure gas fuel systems applications• Extensive industry knowledge and professional network• Proficiency in detailed engineering calculations including fluid mechanics, heat transfer, thermodynamics, static/kinematic machine design and ideally electromagnetics• Metallurgical knowledge (material and heat treatment selection)• Familiarity of design optimisation tools (e.g. Six Sigma (DFSS) / ShaininA® / VAVE) and application experience• Competence in design reviews, FMEA, DFM/A, Drawing Quality and Compatibility Review (DQ&CR)• Experience of development of component and system specifications based on results of testing and analysis• Familiarity with Project Data Management (PDM) systems• Development of and management of work plans• Ownership of design project(s) -- from concept to production• Experience in working with both prototype and production component manufacturers• Direction of/liaison with cross-functional teams• Effective working in cross-functional teams; particularly with test engineers/technicians• Good planning skills and strong communication skills, both verbal and writtenPreferable: • Proficiency in ANSYS (FEA) as an engineering tool for structural analysis• Proficiency in AMESIM as an engineering tool for hydraulic simulation• Experience in vehicle integration or heavy duty vehicles• Experience with engine performance and emissions
