Technical Writer Job DescriptionLocation: Vancouver, BCPosition Summary:The Technical Writer is responsible for creating, maintaining, and validating documentation that covers features, user interaction and system components for our proprietary production software. The Technical Writer must be able to create documentation by conducting interviews with software development engineers, end users and performing their own testing. The Technical Writer will also be responsible for how documentation is organized and maintained throughout the facility.Principal Duties and Responsibilities: - Create documentation standards and guidelines for use by software developers.- Attend development meetings and then work directly with the engineers to learn how to use the feature/tool. - Document the workflow as it evolves, providing testing and usability feedback to the project team. - Create comprehensive, illustrated user guides and step-by-step tutorials that can be used for both training classes as well as independent study. - The tutorials may require working directly with artists in production using the tools. - Responsible for publishing, maintaining and validating all documents in an in house knowledge base repository. - Edit the work of others to ensure it has a consistent voice and content of documentation. - Assist in training programs as neededEducation, Experience, and Skills Required: - B.A. or B.S. degree in Technical Communication, Computer Science, or related field or minimum of three years of experience writing software documentation (including online help) for consumer and technical audiences - In-depth knowledge of English, grammar, spelling and punctuation - Three years' experience writing technical publications in an electronics or software development environment, or equivalent - 2+ years of web development experience (HTML, DHTML, CSS, XML, PHP, Javascript) - Knowledge of Python or other scripting languages is desired. - Experience with automated software documentation tools such as Sphinx, Doxygen and Epydoc desired - Experience with Content Management Systems such as Drupal - Ability to coordinate inputs from multiple individuals - Experience writing documentation including managing and scheduling multiple documentation projects from inception to final delivery - Strong writing and editing skills, with attention to detail and ability to self-edit - Ability to work independently, without direction or supervision - Experience in working in an environment with short software development cycles, where it is needed to work on several projects simultaneously - Experience with Linux and Windows- Experience in a Visual Effects or Animation production environment is a plusTo apply for this position please submit an application at www.digitaldomain.com/careers/
