i365, A Seagate Company, is looking for a talented Senior Technical Writer to assist our team, which designs, develops and operates backup/recovery software applications. The primary responsibility of the technical writer is to create and maintain documentation for all i365 (EVault) software products, including documents in written form (Word, text, and PDF), as well as online help (e.g., F1 and context-sensitive help).Essential duties and responsibilities:- Design, write, and edit content for help and documentation materials (user guides, release notes, read-me files, and training documents).- Research our software products. This includes working with knowledgeable staff (such as programmers, testers and product managers), experimenting with the software, and reading software specifications and other design documents.- Responsible for producing accurate and complete documents that follow defined style guidelines.- Proactively suggest GUI changes and text creation during early stages of development.- Work closely with Quality Assurance to ensure that content is accurate, complete, and meets quality standards.- Review and assist in development of product requirements, technical specifications, and knowledge bases.Must have:- Excellent communication, writing and editing skills. Able to multitask with detail retention, and manage writing assignments from inception to completion within tight deadlines.- Familiarity with technical writing best practices and manuals of style. Knowledge of UI best practices and simplified English.- Proficiency and working knowledge of graphics and/or desktop publishing software products (MS Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, and Robohelp).- Understanding of Agile Development and System Development Lifecycle processes.- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Technical Communication, English or a related field.- An IT background - Bachelor's degree in Computer Science (preferred) Information Technology or a related field, or equivalent experience (5 years of work experience in information technology).- Self-motivation, leadership skills, a strong desire to excel as a technical writer, and the ability to work under minimal supervision are essential.- Professional writing samples will be requested at the interview.Good to have:- Working knowledge of web-based online help authoring tools. Experience with HTML coding a plus. Knowledge of structured/XML help systems a plus.- Familiarity with bug tracking and version-control software such as Perforce, TestTrack, and Bugzilla.- Previous experience leading groups of two or more people.- Understanding of how products interact with each other, and the ability to clearly convey this through suitable documentation.
