GaggleUp is a new startup at the intersection of local and online commerce. We are on the verge of launching into new verticals in the Group Buying space, as well as launching co-branding initiatives with some of Canada's most recognizable companies. Our core web application has been carefully designed and maintained with best practices in mind on the industry-leading web application framework (can you guess which one?). However our cherished web app needs to be extended, refactored, scaled, and built out to meet business demands, which is where you come in! We are looking for a full time Web Applications Developer to take our web app to the proverbial next level.About Us * Our core web app is built with Ruby on Rails (you guessed it!) and JavaScript * We develop iteratively and release regularly * We care about quality - our code is well-designed and tested (~75% code coverage) * We work hard, but smart. We believe less code is better, and a simple UI is key * We're not religious about technology. We believe in using the right tool for the job * We like to give back to the open source community * We have a very experienced management team who have been hugely successful in the pastAbout You * You are a Software Developer with focus (or interest in) Ruby on Rails * You can communicate effectively with both techies and non-techies alike * You have a portfolio of open-source or commercial work you're proud to show us * You have opinions on better tools & technologies and love to try new things. You are also pragmatic * and choose the best tool for the job * You have a solid understanding of software fundamentals such as object-oriented programming, relational databases, and revision control * You have a good grasp of web application fundamentals such as MVC and REST, as well as web application scalability and security * Ideally you have experience with most of the following: - Ruby on Rails - DB administration, particularly mySQL - JavaScript, HTML & CSS (we use Haml and Sass) - Test-driven development - Web standards - ... but you love to learn new tools & technologies so you're confident that you can quickly become an expert in any of these that may be new to you!What We're Offering * A chance to join a growing startup before everyone knows the name * A chance to work on a new web application using cutting-edge tools * A chance to work with an experienced team of entrepreneurs * A competitive salary with a comprehensive benefits packageWe're located in downtown Toronto, and we're looking for someone local.
